The International Music Museum and Library (Museo internazionale e biblioteca della musica), established in 2004, is located in the historical centre of Bologna inside the prestigious Palazzo Sanguinetti and houses an extremely varied exhibition itinerary. The exquisitely frescoed rooms of the building, which also hosted Gioacchino Rossini, house one of the most prestigious collections in terms of printed music repertoire from the 16th to the 18th centuries, for its incunabula, precious manuscripts, opera librettos, as well as for the singular collection of autographs and letters, which were the result of a correspondence held by Father Martini, the spiritual father of the Museum, with eminent characters, scholars and musicians of the period. In addition to the rooms, the Museum houses a faithful reconstruction of the workshop of the famous Bolognese luthier Otello Bignami, donated by his heirs to the Music Museum, a room for events, multimedia stations, educational workshops, as well as a temporary exhibition space and a bookshop.
