The Porticoes, Theatres and their History: evocative itineraries in the heart of Bologna to discover the places and people who, over the centuries, have made the City of Arts and Music world-famous.
Itinerary 3 - Walk along the Portici of Via Belle Arti and Via Zamboni + Respighi suite
Between the Giardini del Guasto and Piazza Verdi once stood the immense Palazzo Bentivoglio, a sort of 'Domus Aurea' renowned throughout Europe; in its place today is the Teatro Comunale, Italy's first public theatre, designed by the famous architect and stage designer Antonio Galli Bibiena.
In Via Mentana we still find the building that housed the Teatro Contavalli; continuing along Via Goito we encounter the first Bolognese home of Farinelli, the most famous eunuch singer in history, while in Piazza Rossini there is the seat of the Conservatorio di Musica, named after Giovan Battista Martini, the illustrious Franciscan father who founded the Bolognese Music School.
The itinerary will end at the Teatro del Baraccano to attend the concert Sagra della Primavera, with the Baraccano Orchestra conducted by Giambattista Giocoli.
The concert will be preceded by an aperitif in the courtyard of the Teatro del Baraccano.
